You say you don’t know how to smile, so then what do you call that look that has gotten me hooked on you?

It was almost dusk, and we were on a race; a race against time.

The day was like a fairytale, and as what always happen in fairytales, there was a conflict. An invisible force that was always against us; and in our version of the story, it was my parents. As I was told to hurry home, moods and plans had started going sour. Second thoughts, arguments, our day was almost completely ruined. I was panicking, like I always do, but then… then I caught a glimpse of your pleading eyes. Your eyes that seemed to say “Stay with me. Even just a little longer….”.  And I heard you.

I was pulling you towards the nearest exit, a smile slowly forming in my face. You were hesitant with my sudden change of mood. In that moment, I wanted to scream damn the world, because every millisecond with you was time well spent. I wanted to run and ignore the annoyed drivers while we crossed the street. I wanted to laugh like a little child and dance not caring who would see, because I was free. That was the freest I had been; with you, only with you.

Counting the time, we sped to where we could be alone to watch the sunset we had been planning to watch together for a long time. I didn’t take my eyes off the tired sun, “Please, please wait for us…” , I whispered towards it. You wondered why I was so quiet, but dear, I was begging the sun.

Walking barefoot on the sand, hand in hand, it was as if that had been the moment where time could stand still. We were picture perfect amongst a dark blue and orange sky, the waves lapping on the shore. I could see our shadows and our footprints, and that was the time I became sure that I loved you.

I love you, and we were not wrong. We had not made a mistake when we gave us a chance. And we are not going to make a mistake if we choose to face the coming challenges. The shells we found on the shore, the one you found was far from the shell I found. But when we put them together, they were broken to better fit each other; perfect.
